A Resident Assistant (RA) is a trained peer leader who coordinates activities in residence halls, builds a community through programming, acts as a mentor, is a familiar first resource for students with academic or institutional questions, and enforces residential policies. Above all, a resident assistant must be an example that upholds professional and personal accountability.
The 2026-2027 RA application is now open.
Application Processing Timeline
2025-2026 RA Process Timeline:
- Applications available Friday, August 29, 2025, on https://uconn.erezlife.com.
- Applications due Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 11:59pm
- Application Screening (grades, conduct, housing, and application content): December 2025
- Candidate Status Notification regarding whether the candidate will be invited an interview: By end of the day on Friday, January 23, 2026
- New RA Interviews: Monday, February 2, 2026 – February 13, 2026
- Candidate Status Notification regarding whether the candidate is hired, an alternate, or no longer eligible: end of day on Friday, March 6, 2026
Housing Timeline Reminders
To be eligible for the RA position, all candidates MUST follow the same timeline for housing as all other UConn students.
- The 2026-2027 Housing Application will be available in MyHousing on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
- Students who submitted an RA application should submit their housing application by 11:59pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Campus Changing
Changing from Storrs to Stamford:
- You must continue to be eligible to live on-campus (must complete all campus change and housing application by the deadline).
- You will complete the 2026-2027 Stamford or Hartford RA application, depending on which campus you are changing to. (If you are waiting to hear back about your campus change application, we recommend applying to both, Storrs and Stamford/Hartford campuses)
- You will be invited to interview at the Hartford/Stamford campus

- You must be living on campus at Hartford/Stamford for Fall 2026

Housing Criteria
Housing Criteria:
- All candidates must have lived on-campus for 1 or more full semesters at either the Stamford or Storrs campus by end of the fall 2025 semester.
- In addition, candidates must submit their on-campus housing application for 2026-2027 by 11:59pm Tuesday, January 20, 2026. If you have not applied for housing or are placed on the housing waiting list, you will be ineligible to be an RA for 2026-2027. You MUST be guaranteed for housing for fall 2026 to be eligible to be hired.
- If you don’t currently live on campus and apply for housing, you may be placed on the waiting list for housing, which makes you ineligible for the RA position. · Students who anticipate campus-changing for fall 2026 must also be sure to follow the appropriate steps in the process. In addition, students who are approved to campus change must be granted housing for the campus to which they are changing.
- Students who fulfill all housing requirements may live on campus for up to 8 semesters: including time as a RA. If you have lived on campus for 7 or more semesters at the end of the fall 2025 semester, you will not be eligible to be a RA for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Academic Status
Student Academic Status:
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Earn at least sophomore status by the time of employment (fall 2026) and be a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student enrolled at the Storrs campus for the entire employment period.
- Maintain a 2.50 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) at the time of application, and throughout the process. Incomplete/missing grades must be completed by the date on the University's
- Academic Calendar for spring 2026. Students on Scholastic Probation/Subject to Dismissal will be ineligible to continue in the process.
- It should be noted that if a student is offered an RA position for the 2026-2027 academic year and later placed on scholastic probation or are subject to dismissal after the close of the spring 2026 semester, they will no longer be eligible to be an RA and will be removed from the RA position.
Community Membership Status
Community Membership Status:
- Uphold the University's Responsibilities of Community Life: The Student Code and the On-Campus Housing Contract. All students with a student conduct history will be subject to review. Students who are on University Probation during the semesters of application review or interviews are not eligible to interview. Students who were found responsible for any incidents in the current academic year or during the application and interviewing process will not be eligible to interview or continue in the process.
Employment Period
Employment Period:
- RAs will move into their fall 2026 assignment on Sunday, August 16, 2026, and RA training will begin on Monday, August 17, 2026.
- RAs must attend all sessions during RA Training (August 16, 2026 – August 26, 2026 and January 12, 2027 – January 15, 2027).
- RAs must work during opening weekend (Thursday, August 27, 2026 – Sunday, August 30, 2026 and January 16, 2027 – January 17, 2027).
- RAs cannot serve as Wow leaders or hold other employment during RA training or opening weekend.
- The employment period is both fall 2026 and spring 2027 semesters. Candidates who have applied for--but will not know whether they are accepted to--education abroad or other semester long University programs may still apply since the RA application due date typically proceeds the notification of acceptance to semester-long University programs.

Interest in RA Position for Honors, Learning Communities, and/or Special Interest Communities
Interest in RA Position for Honors, Learning Communities, and/or Special Interest Communities:
- Candidates who are interested in Learning Communities (LCs), Honors, or Special Interest Communities(American Sign Language, Gender Inclusive, Husky Village, Substance Free and Veterans) will also need to meet the criteria noted below.
- Must meet all criteria noted under Position Qualifications, Position Screening Criteria, Student Academic Status, Community Membership, and Employment Period.
- The application will allow the student to indicate their interest in only one Learning Community, one Honors Community or one Special Interest Community.
- If a candidate is invited to interview, the candidate will have another opportunity to indicate interest.
- Must have successfully completed the first-round interview process.
- Priority consideration is also given to those candidates who have already lived in the community as a student.
Required for All RAs:
Required for all RAs: As part of the Resident Assistant (RAs) position in the Department of Residential Living and Education, all first year RAs are required to enroll in and successfully complete the course: EDLR 3298 – Variable Topics / EPSY 3235 – The Resident Assistant Experience. Note this course is cross listed. The course is offered through the Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) in the Neag School of Education. This course is a 1-credit discussion-based course designed to support new Resident Assistants (RAs) in developing the core competencies needed for their role. Through weekly sessions, students explore topics such as emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, inclusive leadership, communication, and professional development. The course emphasizes experiential learning, reflection, and peer dialogue to help RAs navigate challenges in residential life and build transferable skills for future success.

- RAs will earn a housing waiver for their RA room.
- RAs will also earn a stipend of $5,712.00 for the 2026-2027 academic year. The stipend is paid out biweekly.
- RAs who are on-duty during break periods will be paid separately for the actual days worked.
- RAs are responsible for paying individually for their tuition, fees, parking pass, and meal plan (if applicable).
- RAs placed in suite style or traditional style housing are responsible for choosing and paying for a meal plan. The meal plan is only optional for those who are placed in an apartment style spaces.
- No academic credit may be earned for the RA position, except for through the Resident Experience course.
