Billing

Summer Housing is billed on a flat weekly rate from Sunday through Saturday. Fee bills are generated once per month. Residents living on campus for multiple months will receive multiple bills as each bill covers approximately one month.

Accommodations

Summer residents will mostly be housed in double-occupancy suite-style rooms in Connecticut Hall (limited number of single bedroom spaces available). If necessary due to space limitations, some students may be placed in double-occupancy rooms in South Campus. In rare cases, students may be assigned alternative placements elsewhere on campus at the discretion of Campus Housing. All assignments are subject to change up until check-in

Graduate Summer Housing

Application & Eligibility

  • The Summer Housing Application opens on March 1. You must apply at least 8 days before you plan to move in.
  • To be eligible for graduate summer housing, you must have been a graduate student living on campus in Spring 2026. If not, you may still apply, but you will only be assigned to undergraduate housing
  • Additionally, you must meet one of the eligibility criteria listed on this page. If you meet these requirements, email livingoncampus@uconn.edu to request access to the application.

Assignments

  • Assignments are based on availability and are given at check-in. If you lived on campus in Spring 2026 but don't have a Fall 2026 assignment, you can request to stay in summer housing through June 27, 2026.
  • If you require a health or medical accommodation, contact the Center for Students with Disabilities to register your request.

Key Dates

  • Transitioning from Spring Housing: Graduate residents will move from their Spring 2026 room assignment to their summer assignment during the week of May 18. Specific instructions will be emailed by May 15th.
  • Storage: Residential Life does not offer summer storage. Please arrange for off-campus storage if needed.

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for summer housing, you must be a current UConn student with a valid student ID and meet one of the following criteria.

  • Housing Insecurity: You lack a safe or reliable place to live for the summer. (Note: This does not include students seeking housing closer to a job or internship.)
  • International Student: You are unable to return home for the summer.
  • Summer Courses: You are taking in-person summer classes on the Storrs campus. Eligibility is only for the duration of the course.
  • On-Campus Internship: You are enrolled in an internship on the Storrs campus.
  • On-Campus Job: You are working for a university department. (Note: This does not include outside vendors on campus.)

Your eligibility will be verified by university records or your supervisor, as appropriate for your situation.

Meal Plan Information

  • Students living in a traditional dorm/suite are required to purchase a meal plan.
  • There is one meal plan option for students in traditional dorm/suite spaces:
    • Weekly Break Meal Plan - $167 per week
      • 21 meals per week (1 each per day: breakfast, lunch, dinner)
      • Unused meals do not rollover to the following day
    • Meal plans cannot be pro-rated as they are billed on a weekly basis (Sunday through Saturday)
    • If a student in a traditional dorm/suite area does not select a meal plan, one will automatically be assigned for them
  • Students in apartment spaces may contact Dining Services to inquire about meal plan options: dining.services@uconn.edu.
  • Students enrolled in a summer class may change their meal plan for each term they are enrolled in until the third day of classes. After you’ve checked-in, please contact Dining Services at (860) 486-3128 to make changes during this window.
  • Students working or interning on campus may change their meal plan up until their third day living on campus. After you’ve checked in, please contact Dining Services at (860) 486-3128 to make changes during this window.

Transitioning: Spring to Summer Housing Assignments

Students who have a Spring 2026 housing assignment and are approved to stay during the first week of Summer Housing will remain in their Spring housing assignment until directed by Campus Housing staff to transition (do not check out of your spring assignment if you intend to continuously stay on campus during your transition from spring to summer housing).  

 

Students who check out of their spring housing assignment will not be eligible to check in for Summer Housing until Sunday May 17th. 

 

Directions regarding moving to summer assignments will be emailed by Friday May 8, 2026.

Transitioning: Summer to Fall Housing Assignments

Summer residents living on campus as of Sunday August 9th who also have a Fall 2025 housing assignment will transition to their Fall 2025 assignment between Sunday August 10th and Wednesday August 13th (exact date with more information regarding summer to fall transition will be emailed by Thursday August 7th). All residents needing to transition during this period are required to be prepared to move during their assigned transition period – no exceptions will be granted.

Summer Residents Not Living On Campus Fall 2026

  • Summer residents who do not have a Fall 2026 housing assignment must move out no later than 12:00pm (noon) on Friday August 21st. 

 

No exceptions will be granted for a later move out date.

Summer Housing Mid-Stay Departure Policy

If you plan to leave campus for at least one full week during your summer housing period and wish to avoid being billed for that time, you must do the following:

  • Email livingoncampus@uconn.edu at least 5 business days before your departure.
  • Fully move out and return your keys for the entire time you are away.

Please note: Due to high demand for summer housing, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to return to the same room assignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m moving in on Wednesday, can I just be charged for half of the week?

No, as we bill on a flat weekly basis, you will be charged for the full week.

I am not a UConn student, but I am coming to the area from another University for an internship, can I live on campus during the summer?

No, you must be a current UConn student with a UConn student ID to potentially be eligible for Summer Housing. If you are a part of a larger group looking to plan a conference, please contact: conferences@uconn.edu

I work for a vendor on campus (such as Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks), am I eligible for Summer Housing?

No, to be eligible as a student employee, you must be working for a university department, which will need to be verified by your university professional staff supervisor.

I would prefer to live in an apartment over the summer, may I live there instead?

The answer is likely no. Our apartment spaces are only eligible for specific groups, graduate students staying in their same assignments in Northwood, and medical accommodations.

I won’t need the meal plan over the summer, how can I opt out of this?

If living in Connecticut Hall or South Campus, you are required to have a meal plan and cannot opt out of it. If you have any questions on meal plans, please contact Dining Services directly: Home | Dining Services

Can I be placed into a single for the summer?

A small number of single bedroom spaces will be available for Summer Housing – you will be able to indicate your preferences on the Summer Housing application. The majority of single spaces will be reserved for students with medical accommodations. Can I request to live with a specific roommate?

Yes, you can. We accept roommate requesta via the summer housing application, however we cannot guarantee that requests will be fulfilled. Our team will do our best to accommodate such requests.
